Explain to me, dibs, how you think dropping a nuclear weapon on another country in this day and age is going to work? Nambie-pambies? Maybe they just have a clearer concept of what dropping an nuclear weapon entails. Its called consequences. I agree wars are a horrible waste of life and money but make no mistake. WMDs will always come back to bite you on the ass. If in fact you survive it.
benson- the question is not who invented the policy, but who decided 2002 was the time to put it into action and for what reason. That policy could have stayed on the books for 100 years before there was any reason to invade Iraq. We have policies about fighting communism too but we aren’t attacking China, we’re selling ourselves to her.
legion- I don’t think failure is the right word. Unnecessary, useless, a waste of lives- yes. If Iraq becomes a true democracy in 50 years, that means we succeeded? By then who cares. This is my point- we have the best young men and women in our military. Their lives are precious and not to be squandered on wars without reason. We have thousands of injured and mentally or emotionally unstable men and women who have been to war. Don’t you think we should give them a better reason for their sacrifice than, “oh, because I felt like killing Saddam?”
The biggest thing I will never forgive Bush for- disrespecting those lives in an unnecessary war. For dropping the ball on Al Qaeda who will keep on killing. And prancing across the deck of an aircraft carrier with the words “Mission Accomplished” hanging over his head.
Selective quotation, bxgrl, to suit your agenda. I added “or at least something beyond conventional arms.”
These wars are tremendous wastes of money and American life. If you’re going to attack, do it with force. Make it work, and fast. This country has been run by namby pambies catering to too many liberal special interests and political correctives.
Yes, it was. A policy signed into law by Bill Clinton. My point (in response to Donatella) was that it was a long-standing ploicy, not some neo-con invention.
c’hiller, sure you don’t want to go to Fairway? We could always go to Ikea and play with the toys.

500! Whoo-hoo!
G*d, I am depressed today. That may have been the highlight of my day.
“”Mission Accomplished””
That was one perfectly cringe-worthy moment. I nearly died of embarrassment.
yes rf I suppose she does, as much as anyone does.
Lechacal, so your mother believes in charity?

“benson- that was a declaration of policy.”
