Denton, I finished Oscar Wao last night. I really really loved that book. And the Julio Lobo book…..I emailed my old boss….the Cuban exile guy….told him about the book…he told me Julio Lobo was his godfather. (!).
who the fuck cares if wal-mart is dark and dismal?
you aren’t going there to get your hair done and browse. you’re there to buy cheap stuff. whenever i go to wal mart i write a detailed list based on different areas of the store. i think of an attack plan in my head, grab a cart, and go to town.
typically i get a month + supply of toiletries, cleaning shit and misc beverages for less than $100. the same stuff in NYC would cost probably close to double.
“There is nothing more high handed than a bunch of upper middle class people having a “discussion” over how “easy” it is to live on a minimum, or even a $12/hr wage job. ”
MM, I hear ya, but not everyone in the discussion was born upper middle class. I did my time as a homeless runaway and lived in a welfare hotel. So I think I can safely opine on the matter.
gem, an IRA needs to be tailored to your age and risk levels. You need about 20 stocks to diversify the individual stock risk.
Additionally, you have to keep on top of them, cutting losses or taking profits. it also helps to know what they do and how profitably they are doing it!!!!
M4L, well I guess they extended their “just in time” inventory practices to payment as well.

donatella, that’s why i specifically said “If you don’t own a house, you are infinitely mobile.”
Sorry, didn’t see that….that is definately true. Owning housing “roots” you in the good and bad sense. If the rental market is ok, you could always rent your crapola property but chances are that if it is under water, and there are no jobs around there, the rental market would NOT BE OK. All the “sand” States are having this problem.
“Now thousands of people are in that position, and yeah, they are better off than people in the favelas of Brazil, but that doesn’t mean it’s a desireable lifestyle, or that it’s just fine and dandy that there are so many do. It certainly doesn’t mean they are comfortable.”
-ACtually am way more concerned for the middle class becoming poor and the poor in our country becoming increasingly poorer than people in Favelas. We all know that Brazil is on a massive upswing where finally you are seeing the rise of the middle class and their purchasing power and the poor are able to get out of the favelas in droves.
NYGuy, I call bullshit on claiming that NYC is a “liberal city” as if I’m supposed to either agree with your liberal views or get out. What a crock of shit. If you’re not racist should you just move out of Alabama?
Anyways we’ve got one of the best mayors in the country and – not a liberal!

“Most of you wouldn’t survive a week living under those conditions.”
denton already said he has. m4l already said his family did….
