Yes, I got it to a surplus for both 2015 and 2030 (were those the options?).
Can’t remember exactly what I did but it was 95% cuts and 5% taxes. I also did the Medicare and SS changes you mentioned.
I was very surprised how big the Medicare issue was, especially relative to SS. I don’t think it’s possible, at least on that calculator, to balance the budget without making that the Medicare change.
In the sugar market, that guy was a legend. My first boss was a Cuban emigre who was part of that whole world. Upper class emigre whose family lost thier sugar plantations and all their money; their family got split up, they lived in a rat hole in the Bronx. I never met a fiercer guy in my life – I don’t know if he ever could make all the money back, but he made a fortune in sugar futures here. The guy used to tell me about Lobo.
But the cool thing is that the writer of that book found a fabulous way to tell the story of pre-Castro Cuba.
What other books have you read on Cuba that you liked?
“How difficult can it be to get a RE license?????”
Dibs – not hard at all – you have to take a 75 hour course for $400 -p.s. – am thinking about doing it
Etson, I reduced a lot of the military spending and raising the medicare age to 68 and SS age to 68 and added back the Clinton Taxes etc. However I never made it to a surplus -did you?
oh guess what i did this weekend btw. i carried a woman’s stroller up a flight of stairs for her lol.
and jessi:
Sorry, Rob. That wasn’t nice. I thought you had said before that your mom long pretended to be your sister
i was under the assumption she was my looney older sister until i was like 9 or so. since my grandparents adopted me they wanted to keep it that she was just my sister for as long as they can. when i started snooping, and when she started whispering crazy shit in my ear, they threw her out.
m4l,
