Caught up on yesterday’s discussion…Jackal – I voice strong opposition to Sarah Palin for the same reason that I do against Hasidic Jews – I don’t want people to think I’m like her/them. As a female human, I don’t want men to have the impression that women get to positions of power through looking good and fast talk. It’s the same way that as a cultural Jew I don’t want people to think I’m anything like the Hassids. I don’t think I feel threatened, I just don’t want her to stand for the best that women have to offer.
dibs:>those earning more than $250k, which is practically EVERY small business owner in the US.
dibs, I appreciate that you’re totally on the Repub side afa taxes, but this seems a parallel universe statement. Can you cite stats that show % of the *owners* of businesses making > 250k (not the business itself)
And- 1) 250k is what, 5x times the national average income?..NYC does not count for stats. So how is it
2) The tax ‘increase’ would be on income OVER 250k; if you earn 300k, it might be 5k or less, hardly enough to put these hi-rollers in the poor house.
“If someone earning 250K has allowed themselves to be taxed at the highest level possible they’re idiots and not taking advantage of the resources available to reduce their burden.”
Seriously ishtar, that’s just dead wrong. Absolutely dead wrong.
“ishtar – thats populist poppycock. Salaried employees earning over 250K can do comparatively little to reduce their taxes. All those imagined tax havens and stories of overall taxes being less than those earning 20K etc are horseshit.”
Uhm, who said all that? I love how some of you people take things and run to fucking extremes with it. If someone earning 250K has allowed themselves to be taxed at the highest level possible they’re idiots and not taking advantage of the resources available to reduce their burden. I mentioned nothing of them hiding all their money in Grand Caymen so that someone on the edge of poverty pays more than them.
I agree -go back to the 1930 where the very very rich were taxed at like 90% and then we would be good to go and have a much more balanced society. I don;t think the cap should be $250K for families. I mean that’s pennies in NYC compared to a family making that in Idaho.
SO now that the Republicans gained the power in the House – I really hope they actually DO something CONSTRUCTIVE for the “American People” and not spend their time trying to impeach Obama or using the next 2 years to campaign in backrooms to get money from corporate lobbyists to ensure Obama is a 1 term president
Ditto – probably. Kinda like “good looking” when you’re talking about female lawyers.
Why do people think Palin is good looking? Is the modifier “relative to other politicians” just accepted and unspoken?

“but I suspect a Republican jellyfish could win in Kentucky.”

I sent jack slade a heads up.
