No mudslinging here either. The people voted for divided government, which should force both parties to the center. We shall see if that actually happens. From my perspective, the night had some positives for the Democrats, especially in the Senate. Yesterday I posted that I hoped two of the four least pleasant candidates (in my view) would lose–Angle, Miller, Buck and Toomey. Well it looks like three might lose! Angle lost already, Buck is trailing a very close race in Colorado, and Miller appears to have lost to write-in in Alaska (though that won’t be determined for a few weeks). Toomey almost went down–so close! But it shows that the most extreme elements of the Tea Party movement were repudiated and that is heartening.
Anyway, divided government it is. Obama finds himself in a similar position to Bill Clinton in 94 (though he still has the sentate). No big legislation of any sort is likely to be divised or passed in this sort of scenario, but hopefully some incremental steps on jobs and economic recovery can be passed. I fear a brouhaha will develop over the Bush tax cuts, which Repubs will want to keep for the highest earners and Obama wants to eliminate. For the sake of the budget deficit I would like to see these tax breaks eliminated, but the house leadership will likely howl about that. Will be interesting to see who wins that stand off.
Cgar – I will try to convince my husband who will TOTALLY go if “Jack Slade” goes”
Ummmmm, and the rest of us, who post with you EVERY DAY, DAY IN AND DAY OUT, are what? Chopped foie gras?
I like Jack Slade a lot, too, though I only met him once in person, at Noki. I’ll ask DH to email him. And, Jack, if you happen to be reading, email me at carrollgardened AT gmail DOT com, please.
Did anyone hear about the ballot initiatives in Colorado that would have cut the states revenues in half, leaving them only enough money to fund public education? Fortunately all of them failed and about half of the elected republicans in the state opposed the tax cutting measures.
floors sanded…pipes cleaned……

“I’m at home waiting for the floor sanders to arrive.”
Euphemism of the day?
I’m at home waiting for the floor sanders to arrive.
No mudslinging, m4l. As I posted in Wednesday Links:
The people have sent a clear message to Washington. Let’s hope those we newly elected get to work on what matters.
