  1. “Top tax is bracket in NY would go to almost 50% combined federal, state and city if they are extended. That is ridiculous.”

You’re stretching a bit here. Most people earning in the top bracket get a lot of tax breaks and if they aren’t taking advantage that’s their problem. Only a fool would allow their income to be taxed at 50%.

  2. Random thought – If Rand Paul actually reduced the spending that he wants to his constituents would be screwed. Those Southern states where the Tea Partiers are so popular derive a huge % of their state budget from Federal funds. That’s why they have similar services we do with much lower state tax rates.

Tax cuts will likely be extended. After the whipping they got yesterday, Democrats will not take a stand on this issue, especially when they realize that a large % of poor and middle class people don’t buy the “tax the rich” mantra any more. Top tax is bracket in NY would go to almost 50% combined federal, state and city if they are extended. That is ridiculous.

The one thing I have to be thankful for is no contested elections in NY, which meant almost no political advertising. Every time I would travel over the last couple of months I would pop on the TV in the hotel room and add after add after add. Couldn’t watch TV in CO, IL, FL.

  3. I had an interesting discussion with my dad about tax cuts. He basically said the only way the government is going to get any extra money out of him will be through taxes. As a small business owner, he also said it doesn’t matter what tax breaks the government gives him. He will not hire any additional workers until there is increased demand for the services his company provides.

  4. Yeah, think there was something for everyone vs expectations last night.
For me, good to see the Repubs make a reappearance in the NY area and improve in NJ. They won the Staten Island / Bay Ridge district and the Northern Westchester / Putnam district, both with what seem to be great candidates.

  5. “For the sake of the budget deficit I would like to see these tax breaks eliminated…”

Yes by all means, raise taxes in an economic downturn and god forbid spending gets cut anywhere!!!!!!

The “Bush tax cuts” are far, far more extensive in scope than just issues with those earning more than $250k, which is practically EVERY small business owner in the US. Look them up to see what other taxes will be raised. Are you ready for a large pay cut come Jan 1?????.
