  1. @ Gem,

I had the same probs too for my wedding this past June. They do fill up quickly. We ended up having our reception at the Wainwright House in Rye, NY. Our ceremony was @ Fordham U.’s church in the Bronx so it made sense for us.

Bubby’s was a venue we looked at. I didn’t like the terms of the contract (especially when they highlighted in the contract the right to changes prices on us at any time)but a lot of other people have been happy. Other spots:

    Galapagos Art Space
    Larry Lawrence
    The Montauk Club
    Rebar
    River Cafe
    Smack Mellon
    Brooklyn Academy of Music
    Brooklyn Museum
    Dumbo Arts Center
The Palm House* (my personal fave but we did’t have enough people)

Congrats to your friend and good luck!

  2. The FT’s Lex column today has a very good article about how the assumptions of investment returns for pensions are way off base.

Underfunded ensions are a big problem, very big. Any assumptions of 7-8% yearly returns are way off base.

  3. I once had to sign a deal w/ Kodak not to talk about a camera they were working on. I got back from Rochester & a neighbor asked where I’d been. On hearing where he said, “Oh, are you doing a show on the _________ camera?” I asked him where he’d heard of this top-secret project & he’d read about it in Time or Newsweek.

  4. Gem, I only shampoo my hair every other day, now. I started doing that years ago because my hair was getting too dry and breaking. (I was also blow-drying it! The horror!) But I can’t imagine going any longer than that. I’ve seen what happened when I got super sick and couldn’t shower for two days. The greasy hair that could stand up in the air on it’s own! Not thanks! LOL!

  5. In answer to your last hypo, jackal, I’ll play devil’s advocate and say nyet. They could’ve been NTSB inspectors doing a routine annual inspection of the switches. And the rail workers – being typical lazy union employees doing everything but their jobs (speaking of, where is Pete???) – wrongly guessed that they were there to buy the company.
