  1. All Brooklyn weddings used to look like scenes from “My Big Fat Greek Wedding”. The only difference was the particular ethnic group. At one time, Brooklyn had about 25 wedding halls that specialized in such productions. Alot of them were in old movie houses, so they could hold a big crowd.

Mine was in the Claridge on Ave. P. Sure enough, it was a movie house coverted into a wedding hall.

What I wouldn’t do THEN not to go to school. Or at least Hebrew School.

Do all of you have to go to hebrew school??? i didn’t have to go to Gaelic or Scottish.

  3. @infinte thanks!

@gem. yes, a lot of these places are $$$$. Bubby’s was more budget friendly, at the park, etc.

Smack Mellon and other venues like Brooklyn Museum is pretty awesome if you can afford the time and money decorating everything on your own.

Rebar pisses me off from a resident standpoint because I can never have a decent brunch on the weekends. They’re always closed for weddings. Which means it’s popular.

Oh and nymag really helped me out.

  4. 1. CGar- I spent all this time looking for a place to park my broom. It’s tough these days!

    2. Can’t stand conditioner- it feels like grease to me. I’ve tried different ones. Gem- which do you use?

    3. Congrats on the new dog, benson. You’ll love him in no time, I’m sure. All my cats are rescue- the DIY method, from the back yard.

  5. I love checking in on the Monday OT and hearing how everyone’s weekend was.

Friday night I took a friend out to her birthday dinner in Sheepshead Bay. I was walking her home and she offered to have her dad drive me to the subway stop. So we waited on Ocean Ave. and he came by to pick us up. A very pleasant evening.

  6. Gem,

We did my daughter’s bat mitzvah at a restaurant/banquet hall/dim sum place in Chinatown. The place we used lost their lease on most of the space and is now just a regular restaurant, but there are many others. They put us in the book 3 months in advance but we didn’t make the final arrangements until less than a month in advance. We had 120 people, AND there was another party almost the same size, AND half the restaurant was open for people to come in off the street, and this was not the largest place in Chinatown.

Just a thought in case they get desperate. The cost was very reasonable, and I was allowed to hire my own bartender (necessary because there were a lot of kids) and bring in my own wine, which cut the cost even more.
