  1. “We had a very lively discussion at lunch about the redistribution of wealth.”

Nothing like a bunch of rich guys sitting around talking about wealth redistribution. No doubt the lunch will be charged off on someone’s tax returns as a business expense. That’s surely my kind of wealth redistribution!

  2. Slopey – All the reviews I’ve read say the KR book is very well written – insightful, entertaining, etc.: even today’s Times & Kakutani is miserly w/ accolades.

Anyone who doesn’t want the choc treats you get, I’ll take them. (And, yes, we used to T [very mild tricks such as tossing confetti] or T the night before & party on Halloween.)

  3. We had a very lively discussion at lunch about the redistribution of wealth. The group consisted of one immigrant who still believes that, to the rest of the world, this is still the land of opportunity plus various bulls and bears. The redistribution of wealth has put the US in the same category as places like Nigeria and other third world countries when you look at the per capita statistics.

One of the things that has accelerated this has been the internet where it has increased the probability of making a fortune.

All were in agreement that corporations heve moved away from the socialism aspect of the redistribution of wealth via the stockmarket to one of tighter control by management and that this is certainly bad.

There mat be a further backlash by the populace in the 2012 elections with this influx of Republicans in 2010.

Also I agree with the direction of people’s comments on Glass Steagall above but would draw the lines of what can be combined with what differently from its restrictions.”

Yes. I for example I would prohibit the combination of:

    1. Pineapple and pizza

    2. Whatever ingredients make a wine cooler

    3. Feathered hair and combat boots (men or women)

    4. Steig Larssen books and the New York subway system

  6. I just had a thought…about education in the US

Why not create a new system where we keep the schools open during the summer and the DOE offers elective style classes for all ages.
For example create extra credit style classes for kids to come to school for a few hours a day to learn more or catch up on what they didn’t understand and also have elective type classes (like Personal Finance or ethics or health or art). But all of these classes would be put towards the kids overall grade for the upcoming year. Sorta like Fast-tracking them
This sort of elective “summer school” becomes an added opportunity for teachers to make extra money during the summer to teach these classes and perhaps the DOE can reward the teachers who do these classes by raising their salaries a bit…..

    Thoughts?
