And if you lived in Connecticut you would have been told, as my boss and his wife were, to join the Republican party if you want to get anything done”
If your boss told you that, he was either stupid or a liar. Connecticut is a deep blue state. Both of its senators, all of its representatives and its governor are democratic. It has been deep blue state for about 20 years.
I agree that the system has been cleaned up somewhat. The cesspools that were the old local school boards are gone. The patronage system is a shadow of its former self. The game has shifted to City Hall and Albany. The name of the game is the holy contract, where perks like tenure are to be preserved. To do this, the UFT bankrolls the democratic primary elections, and I’m sure you know it. Want to get on that primary ballot? You better kiss the ring of the UFT and local 1199 of the SEIU, pal.
RF;
You are being disingenuous again. That contract was bought and paid for by the system I just described. As for Long Island, the corrupt Republican machine out there was broken up about 8 years ago when the people woke up and swept out their majority. They finally saw the benefit of a two-party check and balance. Here in NYC, we have too many liberal drones to consider an alternative party, and so the system continues.
Dave’s euphemisms the funniest thing ever. Cracking up on the train.
Anyone who has periods so painful ibuprofen cannot cure them should look into whether she might have endometriosis.

later y’all
dh I guess your era of invincibility is over
I always crack up when you say crazy offensive shit and everyone just ignores it.

Really?!?!
I could swear that I learned that the semi-colon was the proper punctuation. I’ve got to open up my old “Elements of Style” handbook and check.
Good night all. Teleconference with Japan in a few minutes.
Benson,
Didn’t you learn in school that a semicolon is not the proper punctuation after a salutation? Colon, comma, dash, but not semicolon!
By a perennially cranky poster, no less. Good work, DH!
