  1. Does it bother you at all that when these theories have been translated into the real world, they have in many cases, resulted in genocide on a scale unknown to prior history.
eg. Stalin killing 25-30 million Russians during the Great Terror.

eg. Mao killing 30-35 million Chinese during the “re-education” of the people.

    Eastern Europe throughout history
    Cambodia
    Most African nations

legion, That’s an absurd extremist argument from a place of fear. No one is arguing that the US should go to any sort of extreme as what you are pointing to. Absolutely absurd, and this is why arguing with you is pointless. The country has been and will forever most likely be semi-free market/ semi-socialist. We’ve rocked back and forth on the fulcrum for quite a while, and within a few points/degrees of center, and we’ll probably continue to rock back and forth as history has shown us.

You sound like a scared 5 year old with your “OMG, We’re going Commie any day now!!!”. Frankly, not conducive to any real discussion. None of the lefties here is supporting the notion of complete communism (even cmu, I think! : P ), so why not knock that crap off.

  3. “Science does not tell us the “truth”. That is the clergies job.”

That would suggest truth cannot be had by religions without formal leadership.

Like Rob’s humans came from space aliens religion.

anybody who says they “believe” in evolution is not practicing science. Belief is the foundation of religion.”

Very well said. I would go on to point out that the theory of evolution and belief in God are not mutually exclusive (I was careful to say believe in God, not belief in everything that is said in the book of Genesis).

  5. Legion, I enjoy a good political debate with the best of them, but let’s at least argue apples with apples, oranges with oranges. Your “gotcha” answers to cmu’s remarks are not only not on point, they don’t even make sense.

    1. Citing some case regarding the NBPP to justify the racist behavior of a great deal more of the TP is bogus. One has nothing to do with the other, and proves nothing. Because on racist shows up on the far left, that justifies the racists on the far right? I don’t think so.

    2. Bringing us some guy winning Lotto, a one in a gazillion chance at millionaire-hood, had nothing to do with taxing millionaires or the principles of free enterprise. Believe me, they’ll take taxes out of his winnings, and he’s still able to do what he wants to do. Same goes for the wealthiest among us.

    3. I wouldn’t use wealthy, well connected foreigners coming here for surgery as an endorsement of our health care system. No one argues that we don’t have superior medical facilities or care. The problem is that a large segment of the AMERICAN population cannot afford to access that system. Rich foreigners-yes, average Americans-no. I see a problem there.

    4. I’d like to see statistics of all of those “millions” of minorities voting Rebublican each year. Funny how they never show up at the Republican conventions. Don’t they get the invitations?

I could go on, but why bother?

  6. Legion- I love science (math, not so much). Despite being a non-trust-fund artist, I’ve always been extremely good in science. In fact Tulane University offered me a NASA scholarship in grad school to work in their Mars research program. (Stupidly, I turned it down. Very very stupidly). So I am hardly ignorant in the sciences. you don’t use science as a means of reconciliation- you try to use science to make ultimately political points, as per your take on global warming. Even you will recognize that environmental science is now a political bullet point.

And yes, you are condescending- otherwise why start a post using MM and I as examples? Take responsibility for setting the tone. I wouldn’t have commented had you not made a point of singling us out.

I don’t label the Tea Party racist lightly. But there is a pattern of racist comments that seems across the board and their many insulting characterizations of Obama are most definitely racist. The TP guy in Staten Island was even more extreme but he is simply venting what seems to be one of the TP themes.
