bens, good to hear, the show sounds like lots of fun. I think folks will pay a premium for well designed and manufactured US goods, just need to find what that sweet spot is.
high 5 for 5
Dept of ed is redundant and wastefull. Let local communities perform so they attract taxpayers willing to pay for their success, one reason many jersey towns are successful in education, doesn’t need DC telling them how to teach.
By the way, if folks want specific Tea Party proposals, here are some:
-Abolish all food production subsidies (price supports, food stamps). Eliminating the subsidy for over-consumption would go a long way to improving the health of Americans.
-Abolish the Department of Education. Education is administered at the local level. The federal DOE is nothing but a bureauacracy that does out money.
-Reform Medicare and Medicaid with market-based inventives to reduce the cost of health care. For instance: charge premiums in accordance with how responsible a person is in managing their health (as is done with all types of market-based insurance). Premiums should be indexed according to weight, smoking, blood sugar, etc.
-Raise the retirement age for Social Security. When SS was instituted, it was meant as a social insurance for folks in very advanced old age, not a retirement pension. Return the program to what it was. It has not been reformed to keep track with the rise in average life-span.
-Allow for competition in schooling (school vouchers). We allow competition at the university level and as a result, the PUBLIC universities are widely perceived as a good buy: low cost, and a quality education. Same thing would happen if we allowed competiton in the other levels.
I am proud to say that I am a member of the Tea Party. The basic point of the Tea Party is that the federal government has grown too large, and taken on responsibilities that are best left to the states or individuals. We also believe that the size and taxes of the present federal government is not sustainable, given that we are engaged in a global competiton with low-tax, dynamic economies like China.
We believe that this platform will return this country to the values that made the US exceptional. Oh, we do believe that the US is an exceptional country.
These are my values, my beliefs. If folks want to call me and my fellow Tea Partiers ignorant, racist, whatever, I’m now resigned to it. I know why they do so.
Benson, if you get a chance, the BEST CHICKEN IN THE WORLD is at a place called Athenian Room on Webster by Halstead.
