  1. Thanks for all of the advice re: my friend. Seems a shame that he might not be a good fit as he’s the first guy she’s dated in years that actually has a job and isn’t a meth-head.

  2. Lech, not many people can do what you did. But you remind me of a good friend. He said that he started longing to work, as an adult, at around 14. He was a really bright kid and very tall so he looked older and he said he longed to drive a truck. He nver did but he resented his enforced minor status. He was fine with child labor. He is a very educated guy now.

  3. jackal –re “nutjob,” I responded to that point yesterday. Can’t speak for others, but I actually think Paladino is a bit nuts, apart from anything I think about his political/policy views. I have not said that about other republicans or tea party folks. That is my clinical view, not a political dismissal. Cuomo’s got a short fuse and walks a fine line on sanity, too, sometimes, which is why I said yesterday I thought Riesling was far too genteel a liabation for watching this brawl. It’s going to get reeeealll ugly between these two.

  4. Education is a myth. Rob is right – it’s just babysitting. Even in the best private schools. The only reason education exists in its current form is that parents work outside of the home and no longer work in occupations where help from kids is useful. If people worked from home and needed their kids to help them 8 years of structured, centralized schooling would not happen.

Totally possible to grow up on a farm, working the fields, not going to school, and to join a learned profession.

People think thier kids needs things in school because humans attribute value to choices that are placed directly in front of them and are incapable of seeing the larger voluntary construct.

  5. Ex-ACPI Partner Sues on Bonus, Bullying at U.K. Firm
Sept. 23 (Bloomberg) — The former chief investment officer of ACPI Investments Ltd.’s fund-of-hedge-funds business sued the firm for underpaying his bonus and claimed he was bullied by management.
Stephen Greene, who joined ACPI’s predecessor in early 2008 as a partner, said in the suit filed in a London court this month that he was “bullied, harassed and threatened.”
“There was a ‘culture of aggression’ within the defendant in which partners shouted, swore and bullied staff on a regular basis,” Greene said in the suit.

This guy needs to grow a set.
