Lech, You’re ridiculous. Truly. Almost doesn’t deserve response, but I’ll bite. The idea that there is a fact-based discussion to be had with the tea party is almost laughable at this point. I say almost, because there isn’t much funny about them to me, as they sit poised to turn our country into a frightening, dumbed-down, contradictory and hateful place.
Most (please note I did not say all) of this movement represents the very worst of human nature coming into power on a wave of fear, resentment, probable deeply-rooted, but pre-conscious, racism and xenophobia.
>If people worked from home and needed their kids to help them 8 years of structured, centralized schooling would not happen.
>Totally possible to grow up on a farm, working the fields, not going to school, and to join a learned profession
yeah, right. Farmer-scientists of the world re-invent the wheel.
How much more total rubbish lech can spout is what keeps me reading the OT. And last I looked, it’s 12 years. Guess numbers, along with facts and general knowledge, are not his strong point either.
“Just enjoy life and don’t be so arrogant that you believe your choices matter.”
They may not matter outside of your family – but inside, they most certainly can. My mom picked a smaller house in a better school district while her friend compromised on her kids because she wanted a bigger yard. It’s made a tremendous difference in our lives.
Of course they can’t. I’m a few standard deviations to the right of the curve. But does someone really need to go through the kind of school system we have contructed to be an insurance adjuster? Truck driver? Bricklayer? Real estate agent? Etc etc etc?
Kids go to school because their parents need them gone during the day. The driving force is how our workforce is organized, not educational needs.
So Lechacal, are your children homeschooled? I thought you have a kid at PS107. Is s/he becoming a cog in the machine?
I am happy with the education my daughter has been given via the NYC Dept. of Education. But we have been very, very lucky with the schools she’s attended–there is certainly a great deal of room for improvement. And I’m happy not just with what she’s learned from her teachers and curriculum, but also the social aspects. And I am very happy she’s a teen in a city with great public transportation so I don’t have to worry about driving her everywhere or, worse, her driving as a 16-year-old or riding with 16-year-old drivers.

“That joke went thump, like your plump rump.
Seems your humour is in a slump, chump.”
couldn’t work in pump, trump, frump, lump?
disappointed.

I’m a cog. My kids are cogs. I need them gone during the day just like everyone else. I never said I’m different.

You missed it, cobble. We worked out a much better menu for watching the fight yesterday.
