Some of the happiest times in my life have been spent doing manual labor with no prospect for or interest in promotion. I think the constant expectation of advancement and promotion is pretty sick.
denton, I strongly disagree with the sentiment of your post. Just because someone doesn’t value promotion doesn’t mean they don’t have a great work ethic. I personally take great pleasure in the zen of manual labor. If I could support my family comfortably doing so I would happily dig ditches for the rest of my life.
“your comment btw in the day laborer thread was completely uncalled for as you have no idea what i do all day at work.”
You file, you go to the post office, and you’ve been doing the same thing for the last ten years, in spite of having a college degree. If you have a work ethic, apparently your employer doesn’t recognize it. I once had a job like that, I moved on in six months.

I’d be really happy to be filing and going to the post office for a paycheck right now.
CGar, WAIT!!! Don’t go! I was just about to pull out my boob for you.
Gem – you still there? I had Terrace Bagels on Saturday and absolutely loved them! Thanks for the rec!

About the mosque — You know there are already two mosques in that area right now.
OK. I see no one even noticed I was gone. So long . . .
not to mention that there was a mosque on that exact site pre-9/11.
