How is Rob not working anywhere near his potential? What does this even mean? I would love to spend all day logging or putting up drywall. Would I not be living up to my potential??? Do I have some kind of obligation to live up to whatever potential I might have? I’m not making anywhere near as much and have nowhere near as much power as I could if I had a different set of values. So what??
Good points all around in regards to work ethic. I do believe that some people have a great work ethic and are fine with not moving too far beyond their current positions. From my experience many of these people have outside interests that are far more engaging, but unfortunately don’t pay a living wage. On the other hand, it would be a pity to hear someone talk about their big dreams yet never step outside of their comfort zone and put their “good work ethics” to use.
Some of the happiest times in my life have been spent doing manual labor with no prospect for or interest in promotion. I think the constant expectation of advancement and promotion is pretty sick.
Said the man who just quit his job for a better one.
lechacal, I agree with your post but denton’s point is that rob, with a college education, is not working anywhere near his potential AND IS ALWAYS BITCHING ABOUT IT.
I don’t think any parent should ever be disapppointed in a son or daughter who takes up a trade vs. going to college.

Thanks anyway, ET, but I’m done with you boobs, done with the OT . . . As Eileen Brennan said to Goldie Hawn, “Let’s not keep in touch, shall we?”
Lemme guess, Lech – manual labor means something different according to urban dictionary. 😉
