Lech, your father’s advice sounds very wise. But I’m surprised he assumed you would have more in common with white collar, educated types since you seem to long for more physical work and have a general disdain for corporate types. Sorry if I’m way off, just get that impression (and there’s nothing wrong with such views, by the way).
“I don’t think any parent should ever be disapppointed in a son or daughter who takes up a trade vs. going to college.”
I totally agree DIBS. I clearly recall a pep talk my dad gave me when I was 11 or 12 years old. I was getting in tons of fights at school, skipping classes, not doing homework, getting detention all the time. He sat me down and walked through what my options would be if I did poorly in school (truck driver, tradesman, etc) and what my options might be if I did well (the usual stuff). He said I could probably be happy doing any of this stuff but I would probably make more money and hang out with people who are more like me if I did well in school. He said he would be proud of me even if I ended up driving trucks and he just wanted to lay it all out so I could understand the consequences.
Funny thing is I kept fucking up at school and then dropped out….. and here I am a corporate lawyer in New York City. So, nice thought, good parenting, but total fail on accuracy of the message. LMAO.

YES, CGAR, I NOTICED. And I missed you very much. And so did everyone else.
And for Christ’s sake, Lechacal would you please stop using those WHAT metaphors? They are really profoundly disgusting.
I was late this morning and therefore have not worked to my full potential today because I was smoking Chinese pipe this morning.
Ummmmmm….. how did C-Gar get sand in his crack?
SQOTD:
If corn oil is made from corn, what is baby oil made from?
I’m living up to my potential.
But that’s only because I have virtually no potential.
“Lemme guess, Lech – manual labor means something different according to urban dictionary. ;)”
heh heh. I laid some pipe earlier. Good way to work off a hangover.
“done with the OT ”
WHAT? Why do you say that, CGar? Email me.
