  1. Jones Beach and Robert Moses have a deal with the Long Island Railroad–train to the nearest station then a bus. But no town–just a beach with fast food stand. Jones Beach has a boardwalk–no rides like Coney Island but pools, miniature golf, archery, stuff like that.

    guhross! i can guarantee you that their gross poomist is doing more harm to the ocean than BP!

  3. Rob;

    If you’re interested in a nice beach without riff-raff of various types (rich and non-rich) and are not interested in some type of “scene”, I would really recommend Point Pleasant Beach in New Jersey. It is a private beach owned by the Jenkinson (sp?) family and they charge a fee of about $10 for admission to it. It lives up to its name: Pleasant. You can get there by NJ transit.

  4. Robert Moses is pretty but nothing there (no town, just a beach, cafe, dunes and a lighthouse). Think it would be complicated to get there without a car.
    I went there a couple of years ago when the family was over. We accidentally happened across one isolated section of the beach full of aging nudists!
