my bad it’s mortons not ruth chris downton, still better to go to keens.
rob, why not just go to brighton? Plenty of people(myself included) venture into the water, couldn’t be any worse than….choose your poison.
also you can take the shortline bus to tallman mountain park in peirmont NY, bit of hike from road to where pools are but there is hiking trails, tennis and the pools are only $5 and they are on the marshes of the hudson river.
That’s the one. The Jenkinson’s also own an aquarium there, and an amusement area on the Boardwalk. One of the smart things they do (imho) is that the rides are only for kids up to about 10 years old. Appeals to families with small kids, but keeps out the obnoxious teenageers one sees at Seaside Heights.
The thing I like most about Jenkinson’s is that it is family friendly, and they keep the place immaculate.
I was there a couple times last year, it was very nice. Not a transitional area at all. I’m not sure what you’re thinking of.
Re: Rich people in the Hamptons. You won’t see them. They’re behind their hedges, at their clubs or at expensive restaurants you can’t afford to eat at. You might see them drive by in expensive cars.
I find it amusing to be out there and walk around at night, and see just how many of those houses are EMPTY most of the time.
Block Island: Ferry from CT. or is it Rhode Island. I forget.

rob, the downtown marriott probably has a pool.
my problem with most pools is that they have dress codes. i wanna be able to just frolick in the ocean in whatever i happened to be wear, including my shoes.
benson, ive been to point pleasant (i think), i actually really liked that beach a lot.. if it’s the one with that kinda sorta ridiculous club jenkinson’s?
“Biffers – The bulding is separate from the Marriott – there’s some kind of walkway between the two. I meant to indicate that it’s not part of the hotel.”
Got it! Thanks Arkady. The Marriott is pretty nice and actually as expensive as most Manhattan hotels. I looked into the rooms there when my friends were moving back and needed a place to stay for a couple of nights.

Riis Park used to be good – haven’t been there in a while, though.
