  1. In terms of investigations, the most egregious get bumped to the front of the line. I have a friend who was wrongfully accused of being intimate with a student. She had to sit in the rubber room and was miserable. But, it lasted only 2 weeks or so. The severity of the allegations in her case likely pushed back the progress of others sitting there. The investigations sometimes take so long because they really need to be thorough when dealing with a lot of these allegations. Lucky for my friend, the truth came to light quickly and she was back in the classroom. Sure, we taxpayers paid her to sit in the rubber room, but the real loss was to her students, as she is an award winning teacher who totally rocks at her job. And yes, it should *NEVER* take years to discern whether or not wrongdoing occurred. But, I suspect that can be blamed on lawyers.

  2. “If one of the office jocketts claimed you’d put your hands on her, but perhaps you actually hadn’t, should you be fired summarily? Would you? Perhaps. That would be wrong in my view, but not illegal.”

    Yeah, it would suck. I’m just saying people in Unions are alot harder to fire (for better or worse) – and in the case of this teacher – taxpayers are still paying her for NOT doing her job ( i don’t care if she’s in a rubber room or a desk – she’s not teaching and that’s her job)

    This case isn’t so clear cut – but there have been cases in the past that have been pretty insane.

  3. I agree, jessi. One of the saddest things I learned working with first responders nad we were doing PTSD outreach, was something a general said (I wish I had the exact name and quote). He said civilians understand so little of what it takes to make soldier. We take ordinary men and make them into killers. Then we send them home an don’t help them become human again. How many of us have vets in our family and really know their stories? My brother was in Vietnam and has never spoken about it other than to say he was in DaNang. My uncle fought in WW II- never heard a word. It is so hard to understand what soldiers go through because the demands on them are so extreme. And as much as it upsets me to hear about physical hazing, I’m in no position to judge.

  4. ENY;

    I don’t mind that the union represents them, and I agree with you that they deserve due process. What I find infuriating is that the process takes so damn long. It can stretch out for years (while the teacher is still being paid) and THAT is due to the union’s obstructionist ways.

    You could still sue for wrongful termination if it’s completely egregious.
