Worse yet, you’ve got all of these “Citizen Militia” border patrols and wannabe cops who will see this as a license to abuse people. The real illegals are going to stay underground and off the streets, especially the criminals, while decent people, some of whom have been in the US before Arizona was a part of the US, are going to be subjected to “Walking while Latino”, a phenomenon black people in certain neighborhoods know all about.
THAT is a good point actually.. we all know teenage boys are notoriously f’ed up in their thinking, imagine they all of a sudden feel that they have a “right” to perceive someone as being illegal, and what could potentially happen? today’s ot discussion was really interesting.. honestly tho, i really dont know what side of the fence i am on with this issue, but it was good hearing the point of both sides.. on that note, i have to make dinner cuz america’s next top model will be on soon (and guess who has the biggest odds in her favor of winning this season? a latino!) what if tyra didnt cast her for the show and instead said, b-tch go back to where you came from!?!? i would not be entertained tonight, that’s what!
Yes, Bxgirl! My father (RIP) drove caddys. He kept them clean, very nice. It was inevitable that he’d be pulled over on the highway because he, a man so black he was damned near blue, had the nerve to be cruising down the road in a great car. It became a game on long distance trips…how many times and in which states will we be pulled over? How many ‘cover-up’ questions will the cop ask before finally spitting out, “Is this really your car, sir?”
Oh, and another thing, these ‘incidents’ are NOT “few and far between.” As Flava Flav used to say, Don’t Believe the Hype. (yes, I did just quote Flava Flav! I think it fits here!) Maybe such occurrences are reported ‘few and far between’ on the news, but please, try living day to day with dark skin and then tell me that again with a straight face.
One of the largest problems with prejudice and racism (yup…they are two different things folks) is that people like to deny that it still persists on a VERY LARGE SCALE. Ignoring the problem, downplaying it, or pretending it doesn’t exist just won’t work.
And get back to me when your husband calls from New Jersey because he was stopped for DWB- 3 in the morning coming home from a gig, because he WASN’T speeding. Or being stopped on the LIE for no reason with his white wife in the car. Again not speeding, not weaving in and out of traffic, up to date plates, inspection stickers etc. (Snappy- you go girl).
hey there BX, I heard you had a sick day. I had pocket full of cat nip and an olive branch for you ; )
Next time thanks for the shout!
