  1. I was just treated to a week in Kansas City lisening to a bunch of yahoos tell me about how much they hate the health care bill. Beyond repeating a few sound bites they picked up on AM talk radio and Fox News none of them was able to identify a single concrete aspect of the legislation. My point is that the “anger” is just generalized dislike for liberalism and our current president, not an actual reflection of anyone’s understanding of the legislation.

  2. “One of the things we find exceptional is that we don’t have a nanny state. I don’t want to live like the Europeans.”

One of the things that I like about the Aussie system is that it seems to bridge the differences between the European state model and ours. Culturally Aus is more in line with US than Europe but their healthcare system seems to draw the best from both–ie excellent private care (as good or better than here) and still looks after those who need it. I think that’s pretty exceptional.

  3. “The level of anger out there right now (beyond the coasts) over this health-care legislation is extremely high”

And the level of actually being able to articulate what the health care legislation does is extremely low.
