DIBS, Like the Bush administration took responsibility for their errors? They are such sterling role models, after all!! : P
But that assumes that any problems can be corrected immediately [! if not sooner!] and distracts from the fact that after 8 years quite a few deep problems were created. In a few years we will see the results of the changes being enacted. And I do not believe they will turn out to be nearly as dire or horrid or socialist as they are being portrayed in this absurd media whipped atmosphere.
I agree with Lech [g*d forgive me], I believe very few people have actually read and/or fully understand what was just enacted in terms of the Health Reform. Or pretty much anything else being done. Most people across the country rely on sound bites. It’s just the way things are now.
“And hopefully I’ll feel as spry as Arkady did afterwards, although my dance moves leave something to be desired.”
Biff, “spry” is definitely NOT a word you want to be using at this age. When people wanted to say John McCain was too old to be President, they described him as “spry”, lol.
(And, could you EVER dance? Isn’t that another Jewish commandment: “Jews shall not dance in public except when Hava Nagila is played at weddings.”)
Once again, you are missing my point. I DO blame the left for the ineffectiveness of our government-run services, because they handcuff them by kow-towing to these special interests.
Want to see a simple example? A few years ago the Flatbush Ave overpass on ther Belt Parkway had to be REPLACED. Not enlarged, not changed, just replaced. Seems straightforward, right? Nooooo, first there had to be an environmental-impact study performed. For a friggin overpass replacement!!!
Lech;
I’m not going to argue. Yes, the tea-party folks are just a bunch of ignorant yahoos. OK, if that’s what you want to believe.
Come November, these yahoos will have something to say. If the Massachusetts election didn’t wake folks up, this November might just do the trick.
slope—great points. If only the congressional leaders in both parties could put the national interest ahead of the short term political gain. While I am clearly left leaning on most issues I can recognize a broken system when I see one. It is shocking to me the that the Repubs would put themselves in a position where all of the hot air they expended left them holding a bag of nothing. But it is equally shocking that the Dem congressional leaders couldn’t pull a trick out of Obama’s bag and actually engage on an issue such as malpractice reform in order to win some support across the aisle. A mess we are in as a nation for sure—and it doesn’t look so exceptional to me from this perspective.
slopefarm – Agree 100%. It would have been really great to get medmal reform done. That would have really accomplished something meaningful. Would have been politically toxic for dems though. The trial lawyers are big time dem supporters.
Bush is no longer in office. Obama is. Although he will take credit for the economic recovery that was inevitable just as the sun rises after the moon sets, he will be responsible for the ongoing rise of debt and its ramifications.
More importantly, he will be remembered well down the road when the health care bill turns out to be what it is…a monumental government fiasco costing WAY more than original estimates.
Bush is gone. it’s time to take responsibility for the mistakes being made by the current administration.
My read is that this was actually a blown opportunity — by the republicans — for real med-mal reform. I’m not sure it is as big a drain on the system as portrayed, but it is not nothing. I think Obama would have gone much farther on med-mal reform if it meant getting republican support. Once it was clear the health bill was going to pass, if Boehner and Co. had called up and said “throw in real med-mal reform and you get half the caucus in each house” Obama might have done it and dems would have been on the spot not to tank the reform bill in favor of the trial lawyers. Of course, it would have taken the law out of play as a campaign issue, but republicans would have something real and near and dear to their hearts to show for all the trouble.

Lech, you were a SEAL member?
Jackal,

“I’m talking about government-run SERVICES.”
Are you saying the Seals don’t provide a valuable service? I am offended.
