“Ford posts 25% jump in January U.S. sales 02/02 12:36 PM
SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) — Ford Motor Co. (F/PA:$23.65,00$0.09,000.38%) rode a wave of momentum to a 25% jump in January U.S. sales, citing in its monthly report Tuesday that strong demand for its fresh car lineup helped it carve out more market share.
Dearborn, Mich.-based Ford said it sold 116,534 cars and trucks last month, up from 93,506 vehicles a year earlier. Volvo, which is in the process of being sold, posted a 42% gain to 4,128 vehicles.
Sales of Ford cars, the key to the company’s resurgence, soared 43% while SUVs rose 8%. Crossovers added 20% and trucks tallied a 14% rise.
Ford’s U.S. market share likely jumped two percentage points to 16%, the company said in its release. Ford last year posted its first full-year market-share gain since 1995.
Edmunds.com was actually looking for a 33% jump from Ford, while Toyota Motor Corp., rattled by its sticky-pedal recalls, is expected to post a double-digit drop later in the day. General Motors and Chrysler are seen turning in better results, up 8.8% and 5.7%, respectively, if Edmunds.com’s targets hold true.
It’s 12:30 and hundreds and hundred of Midwood High School students are DONE for the day. This was also the case yesterday. And everyday.
Exactly HOW is this preparing young people for a healthy New York City? Should we be surprised they are woefully unprepared for college-level work? (Or any work for that matter)
Why are charter schools getting attention? Because many of them actually keep kids IN SCHOOL for a whole school day! Novel idea. I know.
(p.s. Don’t tell me that these kids start at 7:00 instead of 8:30 or whenever… that just means the school day is still ridiculously short AND the first few hours of the day have absolutely no educational value because the kids are basically still sleeping.)
Business Improvement District–Pratt Area Community Council runs it, as they do the one on Myrtle which really helped turn that strip around. Many of the local businesses were against its implementation (hence the home-made signs decrying it in the storefronts).
Did anybody watch Jeopardy last night?
