Rob:
you have to keep english!!!
here are my lists students should learn from 10 years old -13 years and on:
Math – THE BASICS! – not algebra and Trig
Science – THE BASICS!
English and reading comprhension
Art and or music
Ethics/Social Studies/Human Studies/Human nature
Computers
Health/Nutrition/Human Biolgy
Personal Finance/Economics/Basic accounting/Banking
Then upon graduation of Jr High, They get to CHOOSE which classes they would like to take in High School. EVery kid has to take a selection of require classes per semseter, but no kid should have to suffer through complicated math classes every year in HS wasting 45 mins in Trig getting D’s and bringing their average down when they could be in a computer class learning software developement for example doing really well and learning something that can actually be applied to their real life in the near future
I would like to enroll in advanced throwing eggs from tall buildings class as I can’t for the life of me hit the suckers from Novo but I get ’em oh sooooo close.
we never had to shower in gym class in school. even if we did i probably wouldnt have anyway, i think it’s terrible to make kids shower together naked.
i did however HATE when id have only 3 minutes to change out of gym clothes into regular clothes than get on the other side of the building 3 flights up in a building like the size of a city block :-/

yeah, they could probably do without geometry and algebra, those should be left for students pursuing these fields in college.
no no no no no. i do not agree with that at ALL. algebra and geometry SHOULD be done with by the time we get into high school!!!! it’s easy enough. we are so illiterate in math and science in this country it’s not even funny

Typing is an underestimated skill that I learned in intermediate school and that I understand many people never learned.
They should still teach history and civics though, since so many people out there don’t have a clue and it is kind of important to know your past and how your leaders are chosen.
Gym is a bit overrated, although it does give you a good exposure to the large variation in human psychology and anatomy, between the showers and the penis jokes and the male dominance issues and all that. Gym class probably traumatizes more youths than sitting through a year of weekend seminars on jock itch.

I also think we teach our kids unecessary subjects
YES!
a list of subjects i believe need to be taught in school from as early on as possible…
Personal Economics
Math
Science
Art
Technology
Phys Ed (im a little leery about that one, but it’s probably a good thing overall. i just know how much i hated it, but i shouldnt let that cloud my objectivity)
and a 2 week intensive yearly seminar on how not to grow up to be a hootrat.
nix the stupid subjects like
history
english
home ec.
etc
(or just make those ones electives)
