  1. “CGar, typing on computer is not that taxing physically so stay here and chill vs. watching TV or something”

Tell that to Cobble! If she catches me on the computer, she’s going to march me back out to my tent and lock the door to the house!!

  2. Gemini — I agree with you about choice. I said Math, at least through pre-Calculus. I stand by that, but along the way I think kids should have some choice in *how* they get the material. For example, when I took calculus in HS (yes, I was a smarty pants), it was in conjunction with Physics… I was fine with abstract math, but I know “making it real” by applying calculus to physics and engineering concepts was really powerful for a lot of kids.

Finance and basic statistics should not be optional. These are most definitely involved, at some level, in almost every modern (and future) field of work.

  3. yes, there are a large amount of dumb youngins out there.
but the truth is, many never achieve their potential.

we should be doing better at identifying each individual’s
talent and putting them in a career track to match.

every parent sends their kid to school expecting that they should be educated to be philosopher-kings, when they usually end up thinking like dime store thugs.

at least NYC has specialized schools for performing arts and for sciences. the other students are left to fend for themselves many times and work out their own future.

  4. “English and reading comprhension” = comprehension

I’d add spelling to your list, Gem!! (J/K) 😉
