Putting kids “on track” too early is not a good idea. English comprehension & writing should continue through 12th grade for all. I know a couple of science geeks at Stuy who sorely feel the lack of good writing skills because too much emphasis was put on math & science. They want to be able to express their opinions more compellingly & it’s very frustrating for them not to be able to do so.
yes, finance should be taught, including how banks work, interest works, the concepts behind capitalism. most people think that budgeting means using one credit card for food and another for clothing.
statistics is a more practical science than trig and algebra for everyday living.

Tybur6, many countries’ HS grads already have completed advance calculus, linear algebra, application statistics,….. that why we so so so behind on technical fields vs. the world. So I agree with you, we need AT LEAST what you’re suggesting
