this whole reducing the alternate side parking thing has not helped the issue, either. Being near busy commercial strip with lot of pedestrian traffic makes it worse….5th ave, smith, court etc.
“For instance, when I leave for work in the morning, I pick up the litter in front of my building. The other residents look at me like I’m nuts.”
Funny, benson, I do the same thing. (Sorry to disappoint you *rob*.) I live near LICH and the employees and visitors toss trash all over the surrounding blocks. It’s disgusting. I especially pick up broken glass all over the place, not just for the CDog but for the kids who play in the 2 pocket parks on Henry Street. What especially kills me is how often someone throws a glass bottle “at” a trash can, it misses, falls to the sidewalk, shatters all over the place, and they just leave it there.
Do you know Marine Park?? It is one of the most family-friendly areas of the city, because of the preponderance of single-family homes. It is not just populated with retirees. It is chock full of kids, yet somehow they manage to keep the front of their homes clean.
I think part of it is that China is only now getting to the point where large parts of the population are getting the same nutrition as the West. On top of this, changing lifestyles allows the leisure time needed to develop talents to their full potential.
Give it time my friend – China will rise to the top through sheer numbers!
“There will be more elections in November…governors & congressmen.”
It’s gonna be a Democratic bloodbath come November. They’re going to lose Senate seats all over, including in blue states like Delaware and Illinois, and I think Harry Reid is gonna lose too. I wouldn’t be surprised if they lose 7 seats in the Senate.
maybe it’s as simple as how the wind blows with regards to litter. When I owned my house, I received 2 litter violations for trash in the front. Meantime we swept once a week and always picked up stray papers and cups etc, but then you would come home at night and new stray papers and cups were there – I mean who has the time to sit in front of their house all day long sweeping and picking up trash – oh I know – OLD RETIREES WHO OWN THEIR OWN HOMES IN PLACES LIKE MARINE PARK ETC ETC ETC!!!
it’s NYC – gimme a break
but I agree with Rob I find that many kids are litter bugs, but it tends to be urban kids who are way worse.
Chicken, let me clarify the statement. Any major sport Chinese are good at, chances are the women are pretty good – as good or better than the men but the reverse is not true. When the women’s soccer team was doing super well, men’s team stinks. Wommen swimmer doing well in recent olympics – men stinks. Women beach volley ball – men stinks. Pro Tennis – only men I see are the ball boys.
Smith and Court streets at 7am is a disgusting site. Litter everywhere.
“I have to now call people to see who is willing to come give me a jump.”
I thought you had a steady line of traffic at your door, ET.
(Like there was ANY chance I’d let this one go no matter what time I arrived today.)

Got it M4L.
