  1. **amendment**

When I said “the ultra conservative part of me” I should have said the extremist conservative part of me. I realize that their are tons of people who consider themselves ultra conservative and would view my position on that as extremist and I should not have put myself in their category per se.

  2. cobblehiller,

kens is right, that was really presumptious of you to think that I am bitter.
I am in fact happy with my life and circumstances. and having been poor I certainly understand the difficulties faced by the poor. It is why I continue to work with and for the poor in my professional life.
I could have easily moved to a rich retirement community in Arizona and spent my weekends in Vegas. Instead I work in places like the South Bronx, Bushwick and East New York. And somehow I’m ok.

  3. As a city and state taxpayer who can’t vote, can someone vote for Bloomers for me?

Ditto, I’ll gladly vote Bloomers for you. I wasn’t going to vote at all but because of people like Stevie, I’m going JUST to vote for Bloomberg.

the only positive thing I got out of the Yankee game was to get my ass to support the troops!!

so I implore anyone to try and send the troops treats/hygiene products/socks/magazines and letters of appreciation

yes you have the pain in the ass job of shipping them via the post office -but you can do it all online from your home or office and fill out the customs form

I was so moved by some of what the soliders were asking for. Just basic items like toothpaste, coffee and wet wipes… – check out this site.. – just click on any of the names on the left column

  5. I think this is as appropriate a time as any to announce that I’ve become a member of the Union League Club of Philadelphia. Yes, it IS the quintessential Republican social club but you must read up on how and why it was founded. It was the first Union League club in the country followed by Brooklyn & Manhattan. Check wikipedia and see especially the role that the NY club played in organizing and protecting the Colored regiment for the Civil War.

he motto of the club is “Love of Country Leads” which was the motto of the 6th Cavalry in the Civil War.

The club has original portraits of the Presidents of the United States, but ONLY the republican presidents; so in that sense it is still VERY republican.

One of the overriding reasons for joining though is that you get a “full pour” at the bar. 🙂

  6. Legion…I never said anyone forced people to live this way. I only said that they *do* live that way in this country. And the part of me that is ultra conservative doesn’t give a hoot about oppression in other lands that drive people to come to the USA (I believe in taking care of Americans first and exclusively before helping anyone else or allowing them to come here to avoid poverty and squalor). I just don’t have the energy or desire to get into a super deep discussion on a blog about this, it will only serve to get me angry and frustrated. Let’s just agree to disagree and look forward to quaffing a brew together at the next PLUSA event 🙂

  7. “Not agreeing with disparity of middle class or voting republican or democrat has nothing to do with not respecting fellow human beings.

Amen to that, Kens. You know someone can no longer logically debate an issue when they start questioning your personal genorosity or patriotism.
