I get Trick or Treaters every year. If you have decorations or even a stoop light on the kids come. In apt. bldgs. it works the same way – hang a dec or put out a pumpkin. Some bldgs. have sign-up sheets.
some are rich due to family money. some are rich cause they got super lucky somehow. well, I aint talking about them. I’m talking about the ones who busted their assed and got some varying degree of success they’re happy with. if you aint happy with what you have, what you’ve accomplished, etc., ask yourself if you have honestly put forth the “110%” effort before you go blaming the system, other people,… I’m pretty confident there’s valid & relevant reasons to assign some blame to others but I’m even more confident most of the blame rest with the person in the mirror. for example, I didn’t get into MIT vs some of my buddies did. I thought I was as smart or smarter than them. they studied more, worked harder vs me hanging out more and there is where I failed myself in the quest to get into MIT (didn’t put forth 110% effort)
Some of you need to step up to the podium and accept some accountability
A lot of life is timing, but paying attention is just as important. Look at Bloomberg, left/fired from Salomon and saw an opportunity in publishing of all things. He became content king of financial data. He made his fortune in Publishing, not banking.
at least we have hundreds of reality tv shows these days that do give ANYONE of ALL walks of life, the opportunity to become millionaires, or at least make at minimum 50 grand with minimal effort. these didnt exist much many years ago, but they do now. so people who complain need to start applying for these dumb shows, humilate themselves for cash, and make people like me laugh. how to make money these days sure is different than before, but it’s still possible. im just throwing that out there as a possibility.
bxgrl,
I really do appreciate how many on the OT can discuss these issues and still agree to disagree. from the start, I’ve always felt like John Lennon about it;
“…think of what I’m saying
we can work it out and
get it straight or say goodnight…
..we can work it out…”
“…when you talk about Chairman Mao…
…you ain’t gonna make it with anyone anyhow…
rob, turns out kids *do* trick or treat in nyc. i think that neighborhood produce maps of which houses participate– maybe you could get a hold of a map, dress up like a butterfly…
so i was at wendy’s for lunch (just a small chili) but i bought a book of coupons, 10 coupons for a free frosty!, for only a buck! that’s 10 cents per frosty! i know youre supposed to give these coupons out to kids on halloween but i dont think there’s a wendy’s in brooklyn and im thinking that park slope parents might snub their noses if they see their kids getting a free frosty coupon. . the dollar spent on it did go to a good cause however! actually do kids go trick or treating in nyc. i swear ive been here like over 8 years and i dont recall ever seeing a trick or treater.
*rob*
I didn’t get any trick-or-treaters last year. I wonder if its because of my building, I never lived in an apartment building before…
Delepp
omg – yesssss with their diana ross baby!
priceless
and mannie and his poncho
Rob – of course kids go trick or treating in NYC – esp park slope
hellooo – why not head up to 7th avenue on Saturday around 5pm and they have a parade and all the stores hand out candy
I would think PS parents would actually not be interested in Frosty coupons due to the fact the frosty isn’t organic
