Dirty is right, Starbucks does (or did) treat their workers extremely well. I have not-so-fond memories of graduating college in Oregon in the middle of a recession and TRYING to get hired by Starbucks so I could have health insurance. Sadly, I wasn’t selected for intensive coffee training and I was forced to move to New York and go into investment banking.
But I will always have a soft spot for that company, even if they didn’t hire me. What I think Starbucks haters miss is, companies that TRY to treat their employees well are few and far between. I’m pretty damn sure that Bittersweet, Atlas, Oslo and Grumpy don’t offer health insurance or stock options.
As for HGTV, I always end up screaming at the television: “DONT RIP OUT THOSE KITCHEN CABINETS! WHAT ARE YOU DOING?”
Adam, How great, Hope you have a wonderful trip! You’ll think of something! Writing in the sand sounds very romantic!
“That comment about checking potential renter’s spending habits was nothing short of insane!”
Snappy, When BH and I were looking, first we were told that there was nothing for us in this area—which obviously turns out to be untrue— then we were asked for brokerage statements, work stubs, bank statements, cashier’s checks for deposit, first and last, and work and personal references!! I was pretty peeved at all that to say the least. And we had to pay $50 each for a credit check since we aren’t married! It was brutal.
