rice-small-012811.jpgThe Local shares some terrible news today: the Rice location at 166 Dekalb Avenue will close this Sunday. This comes years after we found a Craigslist advertisement seemingly trying to sell the spot. The Local also reports the Dumbo location will remain open, and we gave them a call just to confirm. (It will stay open.) Bummer for Fort Greene residents.

  1. “also DH- I’m not sure that the “perfectly fine” locations in Nolita and DUMBO aren’t doing as well as you think. It may just be a case of poor management, but it also sounds like the the whole concept has aged beyond it’s lifespan. ”

yeah maybe. i know the one in nolita does a booming delivery business. and no one goes anywhere in dumbo, so hard to gauge.

anywho – does anyone know if this rumor about Moe’s closing is true?

  3. “I may be going out on a limb here but I’d submit most people eat out at mediocre places most of the time. The same ol’, same ol’ phenomenon. Who goes to a fabulous dinner every time they go out?”

Agreed. This is why I love Rice! It’s a great place to stop off on the way home when you don’t feel like cooking. Asian Slaw and Coconut curry are delicious! (soy meatballs, not so much) And, they give you free rice crispie treats! I’d be sad if the one in DUMBO closed. It’s quick and clean – something to pay a few bucks extra for.

  4. It’s be nice if it was like a gourmet sandwich shop. A place where you could pick up a few things–sandwiches, drinks, prepared salads etc and then take them to park (and they would also deliver. We need better delivery options).
