Crown Heights Pawn Shop is Back

Also, we have no idea what to think of the mural that’s gone up to promote the place. That is one lucky baby.
Crown Heights Pawn Sign Comes Down [Brownstoner]
Protests Against a Pawn Shop on Franklin [Brownstoner]
Time to round up 4-5 neighbors and a 5 gal pail of paint some evening.
As long as this place is in a commercial district the pawn shop has every right to be there as ugly as it may look.

someone who can’t find Crow Hill on a map, or in person,
wow! making fun of someone afflicted with dyscartographia. :-/ what next? pushing a wheel chair down a flight of stairs!?

it can still be a great neighborhood with a nice urban staple like a pawn shop, and a nice fun mural. why do you care? newsflash, times are tough and some people need to sell their crap. even when times are good people still need to sometimes sell their crap. just because you dont agree with certain businesses dont mean they dont have to right to operate. i dont believe in lame cupcake stores and places that charge 15 dollars for a cup of coffee, but you dont see my panties getting in a bunch about it and saying they arent allowed to do business, do you?

I really don’t care if people think this is cool, that’s your opinion, and I respect that, even though I disagree.
I do take issue with “degentrification”. There is nothing cool about decending back into the pit that this neighborhood has pulled itself out of, with years of neighborhood activism, hard work, and blood, sweat and tears. Crow Hill is a great neighborhood, with great architecture and great people. It’s an example of how the revitalization of a neighborhood can occur with old and new folks working for a common goal. The road can be rocky, but it’s worth walking.
So the celebration of a setback in progress, by someone who can’t find Crow Hill on a map, or in person, really galls me. Score +1 for ignorance.
ha haaaaaaaaaaaa
+1 for degentrifcation

that mural is hilarious!
etson, I thought you were a free markets kinda guy… if the usage of this property is within the law, all the best to him, imo.
Mural is freekin amazingly tacky and great.
But yeah, I’d be pissed if a pawn shop showed up in my nabe.
I’d be more pissed if budget cuts closed the nearby methadone clinics and my stolen flat screen showed up in the Pawn Shop window.
That would be the “time to leave NYC” moment for me.
