Despite numerous protests against a pawn shop moving to the corner of Franklin and Park – and despite the pawn shop sign being taken down – it’s still set to open. I Love Franklin Avenue points out the kicker: the shop’s named Crow Hill Jewelry, after the very group that protested it. Ouch! Also, we have no idea what to think of the mural that’s gone up to promote the place. That is one lucky baby.

  1. By the way read the sign it is now jewelry store and not a pawn shop. nothing you can do now. It is zone for this store. lol I love to take credit and say it was all my idea.

  2. @daveinbedstuy: Don’t paint over the mural cuz u be arrested for vandalism. Hahaha. All this is very funny. Good for you big mouth nothing to do yuppies; and for the colored people who forgot where u came from. You didn’t get all hung up with the big liquor store on the corner. You’re all
phony. All of u who r complaining will be the first customers there. Stop your crying and go do something constructive. The mural is great and you’re just jealous he didn’t leave the neighborhood. lmao

  3. First, Rob, I feel sorry for you and your miserable life. You bring nothing of value to this board.

MY ACTUAL POST: For the last two years, I would turn down this street whenever walking to and from my house because it is THE prettiest street around, not just in Crown Heights. Now, it’s hard to take a leisurely walk down this street without being visually assaulted by this horrendous mural. I too hope that there is no business for them and they go bankrupt.

  4. That mural is hilarious, the pawn shop owner’s final F*** YOU to those who doth protest too much. As Bob noted, if there’s need for it in the area, it will survive. If not, it’ll soon be yet another Thai restaurant.

  5. “The issue is that the building is not zoned for this type of store.”

Really? So what’s the problem? Call 311 and shut
em down. IJ, great book that McCall, I sent to a kid that used to work for me who got locked up.

  6. “I wonder what some teenage thief thinks after he steals a hipster iPod…”Man what is this shit music?????””

Nathan McCall writes about that very thing in his excellent memoir Makes Me Wanna Holler. It was how he discovered Bruce Springsteen and other “white” acts, from stealing car stereos and the tapes inside them.
