On Wednesday night, The Brooklyner, the new 490-unit rental tower at 111 Lawrence Street in Downtown Brooklyn, held its official launch party (despite now being 60% rented and having tenants in place already). The event gave us a chance to drink in the views from the 51st-floor roof terrace of what is now Brooklyn’s tallest building. Pretty stunning!

  1. There is no downside to a roof deck. None. It can be small, it can be on a low floor or high floor, either way, it’s a bonus. Spaces where you can step outside of the walls of your own home to catch a view, a breeze, entertain friends, whatever. It’s not a private backyard so if that’s important to you and you can afford it, go for it.

  2. what the hell is so wrong about sitting around in your underwear playing xbox!? it sounds much more fun than standing on a crowded rooftop with a bunch of obnoxious yuppies who were priced out of manhattan.

    *rob*

  3. Uhhh – what’s the alternative? An octagonal bedroom? Doesn’t sound very practical.

    maybe 3 seperate rooms.
    a seperate bedroom room number 1
    a seperate kitchen room number 2
    a seperate living room number 3

    not 2 rooms.
    what part does anyone not get??

  4. Mr. B;

    I challenge you to make DH’s 12.06 the QOTD. It’s hysterical and to the pint, even though it doesn’t resonate with your brownstoner ethos. Come on, Mr. B. – give the opposition some fair play!

  5. well maybe if the kitchen living dining combo was actually bigger than 12 x 15, then it wouldn’t be so bad. But to me, and i dont care what anyone says,it looks like 1 kitchen, with no living room.

    yes people are renting them, that’s all they make, they have no choice. Duh !!

    and I agree with the OP, if the stupid island wasn’t there, that is where the table with 4 chairs could be so maybe 4 people can sit down and have a conversation and actually look at each other, rather than sitting at a bar all in a line.

  6. “true – but having a small, awesome common space is better then renting a dark garden brownstone apartment with no garden access when during summers you get to hear the sound of your land(over)lord out back with their family frolicking, lauging and BBQing while you sit inside with your fan eating peanut butter sandwiches.”
