On Wednesday night, The Brooklyner, the new 490-unit rental tower at 111 Lawrence Street in Downtown Brooklyn, held its official launch party (despite now being 60% rented and having tenants in place already). The event gave us a chance to drink in the views from the 51st-floor roof terrace of what is now Brooklyn’s tallest building. Pretty stunning!

It’s absurd to think that 100 would be on the roofdeck at once. And even if they did, I’m not sure how many people who are moving here (probably young men and women) would complain about having 99 new friends to hang out and have a drink with overlooking Manhattan while their brownstone counterparts sit in their dark apartments alone in their underwear playing x box.
” But less awesome if there’s always a 100 people up there.”
true – but having a small, awesome common space is better then renting a dark garden brownstone apartment with no garden access when during summers you get to hear the sound of your land(over)lord out back with their family frolicking, lauging and BBQing while you sit inside with your fan eating peanut butter sandwiches.
“ugh, I am so sick of the 2 room special, bedroom and small living, kitchen, dining combo….it is just so tired already…..”
Uhhh – what’s the alternative? An octagonal bedroom? Doesn’t sound very practical.
DH — I wasn’t suggesting there wasn’t other common space… just this is probably the ‘awesomest’ common space in the building. But less awesome if there’s always a 100 people up there.
ita with stargazer. What really gets me is the island with the sink in it, so ripping it out to actually fit furniture in becomes complicated. I don’t mind small spaces, but wasting room on islands and second bathrooms is stupid.
sea of 8 million..
So they were to design these around your specifications, Stargazer?
As has been said, the fact that 300 units have already been rented in a few months means that there are people who seem to like them.
You actually don’t seem to like much of anything based on your comments on this website, so why exactly would you expect the developer to base the floorplans on what YOU like? You’re one person in a see of 8 million.
Clearly people like these or they wouldn’t have rented them so quickly and at such prices.
Does anyone on brownstoner ever say anything positive anymore or is all whining, complaining and nitpicking? Rhetorical question, no need for an answer.
well maybe if they desitgned a 1 bedroom apartment a little different that the same old crap that we have been seeing for the last 10 years, we wouldnt complain.
ugh, I am so sick of the 2 room special, bedroom and small living, kitchen, dining combo….it is just so tired already…..
I agree that the units in this building are pretty small, but it doesn’t seem to be hurting them since they’ve already rented out almost 300 of them.
This is not the only public space in the building. There is also a very large common space on the 4th floor with games and a party room and little kitchen if you want to throw a dinner party etc. It’s fit out to look like a ski lodge. There is also a large outdoor terrace off of that common space. The rooftop deck is an additional common space to give those who are on the lower floor an opportunity to get the same views that those on the higher floor have.
