In August we had a single-room, shared bathroom Rental of the Day at 77 St. Marks Ave. Here’s another, not far away! This is a studio (kind of) at 388 Park Place in Prospect Heights. Again, great location, but tiny living space and a shared bathroom quarters. Considering the apartment on St. Marks Ave. is still up for rent and was reduced to $750 a month, they may have a tough time with the monthly rent of $900.

  1. Right — my point is not “who could live like this!?” — my point is who would live like this AND pay a crazy amount of money to have this luxurious experience?!

I know $350 is a big amount of money, but I pay $350 more per month and you could fit about 6 of these places in my apartment. I have my own bathroom, a human-sized kitchen with real appliances. Of course, I live 12 mins south on the Q-train… hardly a desirable area. (But then again, my walk to the train is 12 mins shorter.)

Location, location, location and all that. But this town is f’ing retarded. $900 for a walk in closet and a toilet in the hall. Jaysus.

  2. This building is VERY poorly maintained. $900 for an apartment of this size in this particular building is absolutely outrageous. Before anyone signs a lease on this one make sure to ask the current tenants about the condition of the house/building.

  3. My super has been looking for something like this. There’s actually not much out there under $500 — not even under 1K. You can feign shock all you like, but the reality is, there aren’t a lot of housing options for a lot of people in Brooklyn anymore.

  4. “Yes plenty of people live like this
what do you expect if you have a job that pays like $8 an hour and you live on your own without parental help.
But agreed this needs to be like $500 a month not $700” (gemini10)

Right, nothing crazy about living like this. Many have done it at some point. And in times past, a shared bathroom was expected in cheap rentals. But cheap! Not THIS which appears to be, per foot, the equivalent of about double what one would pay for a regular one-bedroom in the same neighborhood.
