This two-bed, two-bath duplex at 1218 Dean Street is another Crown Heights apartment with some nice period detail. We’re digging the dark woodwork, but from the looks of the kitchen, the details haven’t been preserved throughout. The rent also comes in steep, at $2,400 a month. But if the duplex is indeed 1,600 square feet and everything is in working order, who knows. Care to weigh in?

  1. 75,000 for a 10 year old Honda is idiotic. The Honda may still be a good car but not worth that kind of money. Calling a neighborhood shitty- which is exactly what you said- condemns it out of hand. You could have said, that kind of rent is too high for the area- but you didn’t. Makes all the difference between accurate and insulting. It ain’t chi-chi here but again, a far cry from shitty. And as you said- it’s pretty decent. Pretty damn decent, in fact.

  2. SnarkSat? I picture a sinister looking satellite hovering over the earth with a perpetual electronic sneer on its face, casting a jaundiced eye on the dross below.

If it is that small, price is way too high, imho.

  3. I disagree, bxgrl… When you’re in *premium* price tag range and you are presented with a product that doesn’t match, it’s shitty. The apartment is fine, IF it were somewhere else!

$75,000 for a Mercedes Sedan… $75,000 for a 10 year old Honda. You will say, that’s a shitty car for that price! Is the Honda a solid car? Yes. Would I be happy driving it around? Sure thing. But if I paid $75,000 for it, I would say I got a damn shitty car for what I paid.

(m4l — if that’s true and this place rents for $2400, it only reinforces my contempt for the new york real estate market. Filled with stupid people with more money than sense!)

  4. It is not possible that this place is anywhere near 1600sf. If the building is 12 feet wide and less than 50 feet deep (based on the images I retrieved from SnarkSat), then this place is 1200 sf at most, including common space. That brings the price to $24psf, or 1/3 above the area average.

  5. believe Mr B had, on his market place listing, a nicer and bigger duplex on this block or the next asking 2.9k. I thought that was really high too but it went quick. but pretty nicely renovated.

if this goes for 2.4k, I would have to update my notes on what is the going rate.
