Not saying this is right or wrong but come on, we New Yorkers are not that naive. it’s not like this just happened today. this has been happening for a while already. This is his blog. it’s for profit. we aint paid subscribers. why act so surprised or frown on it too hard.
“There are ethical ways of monetizing a website and unethical ways. Disguising advertising / giving advertisers special consideration in editorial features is an unethical one. (That’s not even a gray area, not even online–look at Gawker media, they disclose.)”
wtf? it’s not like JB is some demigod who has to influence to sell houses that he approves of.
anyone in the market for a million dollar + property in brooklyn should be an informed consumer and not rely on some blog to choose which houses they see.
and if you’re looking to sell your property, use the brokers who advertise in the forum bc you’ll get more exposure.
Whoa, whoa, whoa. This is Brownstoner we’re talking about.
JB will never be a sellout like other blogs.
He will never become that which he once loathed.

“I’m surprised why so many people are surprised Jon is monetizing his content & traffic.”

IF that is what is going on here, of course.
“yeah – who cares?”
DH, cause I’m surprised why so many people are surprised Jon is monetizing his content & traffic.
Thanks for the OH info, BoerumHill!
Yes, Nomi, CGar, and rd684. Brownstoner has become too much of an interested party. It it does not fairly represent the market.
Brownstoner has become so focused on making money that it has slowly lost much of its vitality and credibility.
Sad to see.
Did BHS re-do its website without telling anyone? Where is the version that has Brooklyn by neighborhood?
“From the thumbnail picture the Williamsburg house looks like a much older building and not in a good way – it’s mssing a cornice and looks very dull. How does it look in person?”
the brick color looks better in person (much darker than in the pic)
