Correct – but it is still in Bed Stuy no matter what people want to believe
StuyHeights is in the far corner of the larger BedStuy. But not all of BedStuy is StuyHeights.
Hate to break it to you – Stuy Heights is in Bed Stuy (The “Stuy” is the same)
Look at Fort Greene prices from 1995 to 1999
http://www.ibo.nyc.ny.us/iboreports/HistoricDistricts03.pdf
they sharply rise and then drop only to be followed by a gradual rise.
I have been to StuyHeights and it is a lovely neighborhood but we were discussing BedStuy not StuyHeights.
How easy you dismiss people as being ignorant when they dont agree with your point of view.
I never said that BedStuy didn’t have redeming qualities. I just encourageed people that they can pay less than 500K for a house there. RE Brokers are pushing the prices up with marketing. There needs to be a corralation between income and housing cost.
I just wish we had more nail salons and barber shops in my neighborhood.
The A&H “mansion” is not anywhere near Myrtle. It is on Cambridge Place between Gates and Fulton. There has been extensive commentary on this sight about the work that may need to be put into it. Have a look in the archives if it is still not up. Some old renters had a lot to say about the “real” condition of the building.
WHY IS THE 2.1MM A&H MANSION NOT LISTED HERE? it looks gorgeous on the website. A little too close to myrtle for my tastes, but GORGEOUS
I currently live in Bed Stuy and while I love my house – I’m not thrilled with the hood. However, I moved to Ft Greene in 1989 and was not thrilled with that hood at that time. However, when I sold my condo in 2000, I was quite happy with the nice profit I made. I bought into Bed Stuy at a really good price under $400,000 and have a beautiful 1899 brownsone (will be on the tour).
Bottom- line – it depends on what you want and what is important. I have no kids – not worried about schools – subway is 7 blocks away – enjoy the walk and if I need to I can spend $6 on a cab from the subway to my house.
Bed Stuy has its issues – but if you live on an intact block – it can be pretty good.
Just remember that PS, FG, CH were not always what they are now. I don’t know Bed Stuy’s future – but it’s my home – so please be gentle.
Nicely said 4:49! As someone who tends to defend Bed Stuy (perhaps a bit too enthusiastically), I just have to say that it is sad when people say things like, “Besides being cheap, why would anyone want to live there.” I will venture that most of these people have never even been to Stuyvesant Heights. The neighborhood is really stunning, and I actually appreciate that it is on the quiet side (not everyone wants to live next to 7th Avenue). I just wish people wouldn’t make ignorant prejudgments.
