A couple of weeks ago we were describing the block of Clifton Place between Franklin and Bedford Avenues as “decidely ungentrified” but we may have to dial that down now that we’ve seen this new listing at 201 Clifton Place. Turns out that a decade ago someone (with quite good taste) converted this two-story carriage house into a very cool loft-like residence. In addition to the private parking, we can’t get enough of the exposed beams and ceiling; the exposed brick and skylight are also a nice touch. No exact square footage is given but we’re guessing there’s a little less than 2,500 square feet of living space–along with lots of outdoor space. Really well done. At $899,000, this is a heck of a “condo alternative” in our view.

  1. Cool! You wouldn’t happen to remember the guy’s Webpage? I’m curious to see if he droppes his price or took it off the market…
I’m sure the street started with an M so it’s Macon or Madison.
Better location is questionable because except fried chicken, you don’t have much option on the Fulton/Bedford surrounding.
This HOTD has the benefit to be a short walk away from Fort green for restaurants…However the street it’s on is one fugly one.
I respect both these guy’s vision and what they made out of their place but their timing couldn’t be more wrong to get anything close to their asking price… 3 years ago, sure, but now ? No way!

  2. Reminds me of this place in Bed Stuy one guy renovated and tried to sell for a million bucks 18 month ago or so, I can’t remember exactly where it was…Macon or some street like that above Fulton and east of Bedford. It used to be a garage that the guy turned into a duplex loft with a tiny court yard at the back! Anyone remember? The place looked very modern and fantastic but when you looked at the street where it was, you were like, no fvcking way i can move there…

  3. This is gorgeous! This guy has skilled!
The proximity to the housing complex next door makes it a terrible location, however i’d pick it anytime over yesterday ‘s HOTD. The private indoor parking is also a great advantage in this hood. Also, for those who leave early in the morning and come back late at night, you can consider taking a 5mn cab to Nevins ST or Hoyt St. if you work midtown. Let’s say $10/day=$50/week=$2700/year. That’s $27000 or lets even say $35,000 (adjusted for inflation) spent over 10 years in cab rides and you’re still saving $550,000 over yesterday HOTD’s dump! It’s just one way to look at it…
