House of the Day: 201 Clifton Place
A couple of weeks ago we were describing the block of Clifton Place between Franklin and Bedford Avenues as “decidely ungentrified” but we may have to dial that down now that we’ve seen this new listing at 201 Clifton Place. A couple of weeks ago we were describing the block of Clifton Place between Franklin and Bedford Avenues as “decidely ungentrified” but we may have to dial that down now that we’ve seen this new listing at 201 Clifton Place. Turns out that a decade ago someone (with quite good taste) converted this two-story carriage house into a very cool loft-like residence. In addition to the private parking, we can’t get enough of the exposed beams and ceiling; the exposed brick and skylight are also a nice touch. No exact square footage is given but we’re guessing there’s a little less than 2,500 square feet of living space–along with lots of outdoor space. Really well done. At $899,000, this is a heck of a “condo alternative” in our view.

I thought you didn’t like exposed brick. Could it be your tastes have matured?
You wouldn’t appreciate it living in Ditmas Park.
Oh, no, wait. I’ve got it backwards: the white living room is downstairs, the deep blue one upstairs. So, it’s the upstairs that is the fancier unit and therefore the “owner’s.” Huh. Then the tiny kitchen is even more confusing!
That renovated brownstone is ghastly.
So, it’s really two separate units, yes? A little confusing because the only kitchen that he shows on his site is what looks like would be the tenant’s kitchen, as the upstairs in general, as nice as it is, appears to be the rental. So why no picture of the presumably full-sized kitchen downstairs?
Yes, for some real brownstone porn, look at the place he did that’s featured on his website….

and thank you for that link – if that is the kitchen then its a killer for me – coils? How common!
Just in case any kids are reading – that s/b curiosity
2500 sq foot in an established condo/coop would run you about 9K a year in property taxes. This isn’t so bad. Also a wide lot. Great space.
