House of the Day: 201 Clifton Place
A couple of weeks ago we were describing the block of Clifton Place between Franklin and Bedford Avenues as “decidely ungentrified” but we may have to dial that down now that we’ve seen this new listing at 201 Clifton Place. A couple of weeks ago we were describing the block of Clifton Place between Franklin and Bedford Avenues as “decidely ungentrified” but we may have to dial that down now that we’ve seen this new listing at 201 Clifton Place. Turns out that a decade ago someone (with quite good taste) converted this two-story carriage house into a very cool loft-like residence. In addition to the private parking, we can’t get enough of the exposed beams and ceiling; the exposed brick and skylight are also a nice touch. No exact square footage is given but we’re guessing there’s a little less than 2,500 square feet of living space–along with lots of outdoor space. Really well done. At $899,000, this is a heck of a “condo alternative” in our view.
201 Clifton Place [Cocoran] GMAP P*Shark
Very urban. Very gritty. Beautifully redesigned/rebuilt. The thing I’d be worried about here is the noise and possible toxic smells from the various auto body shops in close proximity, but it’s an appealing place. It’s definitely different, which can be good or bad, depending on how you look at these kinds of things.
This is hardly a “piece of crap.”
I can’t believe what I’m reading in this thread.
Beautifully renovated carraige house? Is that what folks are calling this piece of crap? Are people serious here? Are they looking at the same thing I am?
Yes, I want to live in a garage that has a steel roll-down door smack in its center, which is behind a steel plate for added protection. Lovely. It’s about as lovely as the steel bars which drape every window. Let’s not forget about that steel door that looks like its had a few bats land on it.
Mmmmm, nothing like that “fortress” look!! I guess I am just not enlightened enough to see how hip it would be to live in this thing.
Seems the point is that a beautiful interior (and a silly Corcoran price tag) does not amount to gentrification. The old rule of real estate holds..location, location, location.
how much would it cost to do a project like this from scratch nowadays? (buy a defunct garage and totally gut reno)
uh, and now i see that you could have a tenant. i wish i didn’t already own! maybe the financials could have worked out for me! hate myself!
looks like a great deal to me! this is the best I’ve seen for this price in these parts. such a rare opportunity, too- a beautifully renovated carriage house for under a mill in a nice nabe, altho yes, that block is otherwise hideous
dudes this place had 5 offers in one week
from what I gather, it’s already in contract
if you have been really looking to see what is available, you’d be charmed by this one in this price range
That’s a beauty!
