House of the Day: 1230 Dean Street
This house at 1230 Dean Street was featured as a House of the Day way back in 2007 when the owners, who had paid just $427,450 for the single-family house in 2004, had the hubris to ask $1,650,000. (At the time, we wrote ” this place had no business being listed at $1,650,000.”) Over the…

The listing was yanked in September and just reemerged with a price tag of $985,000. Think it has a shot now or still too pricey?

Details are gorgeous. No kitchen/bath pics. The big issue, while used as a one-family, it’s an SRO!!
Antidope, I’m a little biased too – ie own a place nearby
wasder,
dean st, once your crossed Nostrand Ave and before Kingston, is very nice looking blocks. This one is probably the best looking one. I drive/walk by it all the time.
Crown Heights North is a very good looking area. feels safe. lacks retail amenities. Not talking about fancy places but nice solid neighborhood places (ie diner, coffee shop, bakery,…)
Note to self:
Walk on Dean Street.
Admire architecture.
Note tenor of neighborhood.
by the way: 1.5bath on a 4bdrm house is kinda lame!
and, i agree with the 07 thread: beautiful looking block surrounded by not so atractive areas (some may call it the ghetto).
There’s a similar house on this block listed for I believe in teh 600’s.
I’ll try to find it.
Thanks for the historical background MM!
Not sure if they were just way off the market from the beginning (read: overpriced), or if this is just a nasty place (house, hood, both?).
It just seems REALLY odd that this house has the following price history with price chops from 07 till today:
01/18/2007 Listed by Fillmore at $2,690,000.
05/01/2010 Currently Listed by Corcoran at $985,000.
I would think that the owners would have hit some bid back then. Is this just bad timing and greed on the owner’s part? I suspect there must be a problem with the hood and/or place.
I will give it to them though: pretty house they have, wish it were a 2 family i’d rent out the garden apartment to a friend.
Antiterrorist,
I agree that it’s not really and “ugly duckling.”
It’s only an “ugly duckling” in comparison to its amazingly beautiful neighbors.
