House of the Day: 226 11th Street
Here’s the first new house listing to hit the market this year: It’s a two-family clapboard at 226 11th Street in the South Slope. While not as grand as some of the houses to the north, the four-story property has plenty of detail and charm. The only hairy thing about it is that the first…

Here’s the first new house listing to hit the market this year: It’s a two-family clapboard at 226 11th Street in the South Slope. While not as grand as some of the houses to the north, the four-story property has plenty of detail and charm. The only hairy thing about it is that the first two floors are currently being used as a yoga studio and acupuncture office. The asking price is $1,279,000. Reactions?

PS: The brightness is merely a long shutter exposure.
WTF? Yoga and acupuncture are ancient practices! Can you enlighten us on acceptable forms of exercise and healing practices?
Yeah, the house seems a little pricey. I haven’t been paying much attention lately, but aren’t they giving away houses these days?
rob, I’ll rent you a room for you to do tarot card readings.
if someone here buys it can I open up my own tarot card parlor on one of the floors? that’s just as legit as yoga and acupuncture you know.
and im sorry but sitting on a floor with your legs crossed chanting ohmmmm is not exercise and has no real health benefits. acupucture? please. it’s all mind trickery!
*rob*
If there’s aromatherapy going on too, that’s a deal killer.
Its actually in south Gowanus.
Rob,
Yes, I do agree about the brightness, since I wouldn’t personally want to live in a house this bright, I don’t think.
And I’m sorry to have to break our agreement streak today, but people who think that yoga and acupuncture are crap are the same people who think eating healthy, not smoking and working out are stupid.
Both (especially Yoga) are much more mainstream than you are suggesting. And not just for uppity Park Slope types. 🙂
I agree with hooky though…I think this is a great place in a great stretch of beautiful wood frame houses. Minard’s comment that the location is “just plain awful” is just plain ignorant.
I like it. And after our evening at Jingle Bell, I like Gowanus, too. But, I’d want to convert it back to a 1-family, and, yes, Slopey, it would involve moving a kitchen because the owner’s kitchen is on the 3rd floor, so the renovations won’t be cheap, in which case I’d have to get the house for much less than ask. Unless there’s another kitchen on the garden or parlor levels, which we’d know if only there was a floorplan . . .
OMG- you people are all so picky picky picky…. For a decent offer of 1m- 1.05, this is an awesome pc of property. And not a no-man’s land… ya’ll don’t get out much if you think this block is a no-man’s land.
Come on, let’s start off the New Year with a little love for the frame house.
