What’s a beautiful house in Crown Heights North worth these days? We have no idea, but this listing at 1265 Dean Street should help provide a data point. The four-story Romanesque Revival house is dripping with original detail, including some serious wood paneling, and is located on “one of the loveliest blocks in all of Brooklyn,” according to the Landmarks Preservation Commission. The corner location means lots of light but, on the downside, it also means higher taxes. The asking price is $925,000. Any guesses?

bxgrl…I know I would love it. I really like the area and the houses are gorgeous. We looked at a few houses in CH when we were seriously looking, but now we stopped cause of the economy.
But one day I’ll either be your neighbor or Amzi & Daves.
This house is by far is one of the nicer ones in CH. How can you not love that facade? And that staircase. Ho-hum.

Me too. Things like this make me think it might be worth saving for a down payment. How are the schools?
In the next few weeks I’ll be back in the city.
I think I’ll throw on an Italian silk jacket, put on a pair of English-bespoke suede shoes, carry my digital Nikon and take a walk through Crown Heights, something I’ve promised I’d do for years.
Often when I’m in town I take walks of this type even through (gasp!) public housing projects.
And nothing’s happened.
Then again, maybe I’ll invite Montrose Morris and Bxgrl to run defense. I believe they both live around the corner from 1265 Dean and, as we know, are pretty fierce.

Unless I am not reading this correctly, the “outing” that was referred to above is that “BHO” seconded a post by what that what hadn’t yet made. Either BHO is clairvoyant or BHO = what. Read the thread carefully and let me know if you agree.
