madison stThis beaut on Madison Street between Classon and Franklin looks like a score to us. Only a few yards from the the Clinton Hill border, this would be priced 50% higher if it were three or four blocks further west. There are not a lot of photos to go on, but the reno challenge doesn’t look overwhelming to us. Good bones overlaid with some cheap sheetrock construction that can be easily ripped out. No idea about the mechanicals and plumbing–but we’d assume the worst. The four-story brownstone is currently configured as a three-family but looks to us like it could work well as a owner-occupied two-family or even a condo play, given the extra 1,600 square feet of unutilized FAR.

  1. I always marvel at the fact that all the methadone clinic patrons seem to have a significant other. I can’t get a date and they have one? (abet a skinny tooth less one, but still….)

  2. Clinton Hillbilly is right. Any when the clinic is shut, the dealers hang out nearby to help the addicts get a fix for the day (at least on Classon and Fulton). They should close them down, or move them to a non-residential/warehouse area. No need ot have drug addicts lining up and loitering in residential neighborhoods, poor or wealthy. Such clinic should be in non-residential areas imo.

  3. The main problem with the church is the double parking on Sundays. A friend who lives on the block is always getting boxed in.

I lived next door to that methadone clinic for many years and let me tell you methadone is not helping anyone get off drugs. It’s just another government scam to avoid paying for real drug treatment for the poor. We saw the same characters there year after year. Very depressing, but the people never bothered anyone (except by loitering around looking like junkies). I was always amazed that they were up so early everyday including Saturday.

  4. what do you mean what problem would the baptists and mentally challenged mean?
When mummy and daddy come to visit from Connecticut I’d be so like so embarrassed. And I know my friends from the Junior League raise money and all for the less fortunate but they don’t actually ever want to meet them face to face. And Trevor would never become full law partner if word got out.

  5. Clearly the Baptist comment was a joke (altho maybe not, loud services can be annoying – then again other human beings breathing loudly near our newly restored castles can be annoying as well). There is no doubt that a methadone clinic attracts a crowd more likely to disturb our peace. However, methadone clinics, unlike, say crack sellers, mortgage broker offices or short stay hotels, are a necessary social service. Clinton Hill, whatever its problems, can’t really claim it is overburdened with social service providers. We all need to do our share/ (Okay let’s all sing, “he’s not my brother he’s just heavy…”)

  6. Come on Anon at 1:04, the Baptists are probably no more of a problem than say the Jehovah’s Witnesses in BH, BHill, and CH. Unless, you are objecting to potentially loud services 3-4 times a week and incessant band/choir practices. Is that what you mean?
