This one-bedroom that just hit the market at 296 Garfield Place is nothing fancy, but it’s a perfectly attractive apartment in a nice looking building. Looks perfect for one person, maybe a little tight for two (especially if they’re clothes horses). Maintenance is $436 and the price is $310,000. Reasonable?

  1. I miss the North Slope, but when I remind myself that having my own place there meant working so much that I coulnd’t actually enjoy living there, I feel better.

at $310k its really hard to justify the price when you look at similarly sized places across the river.

  2. CGar, you gotta come to Brooklyn Heights. We’re about to get another dog run on Pier 6. We have Cadmen off-leash, State St, Hillside, Dumbo dog run, and now this. Dog heaven!

  3. Hey, this used to be my apartment! My heart swells with joy when I see it.

You folks are correct: It really is pretty small. I could fit a full-size bed in the bedroom and one tall dresser.

My neighbor shared her downstairs apartment with her man friend but they must have REALLY loved each other.

This is a wonderful building — the interior comon space was lovingly renovated, very classy.

The kitchen and bathroom still look original, but they are cute Mamie Eisenhower pink if you like that kind of thing (I do).

I bought/sold it for a lot less, but it was 13 years ago!

This is perfect place for a bookish single person. I loved it here.

  4. exactly, hard to to that now. I would guess make livible now at least expense and hold for longer term.
Kinda like how some single story retails are known as ‘taxpayers’.
But would hate to see the place torn down though. Is cute.

  5. yes, Pete, that’s the one. And you’re right, it is in the FAR but developing it full scale spec like that is not for the current environment.
