Condo of the Day: Montauk Club Mega-Spread
Wow. Could this 4,000-square-foot spread at The Montauk Club be the coolest apartment in all of Brooklyn? If it had outdoor space it would be a lay-up. As is, though, the entire floor of the historic club is pretty darn impressive, with its 45-foot-long ballroom and original leaded glass windows, mahogany wainscotting and inlaid mosaic…

This time, the listing’s claim that this is a “once in a lifetime offering” isn’t B.S.

Many of us would benefit from having AA meetings in our lobby.

it still is a social club.
The price is interesting. The space is huge and the building’s aesthetics are impressive. One could imagine this being bought by a celebrity in Manhattan for $15 million. On the other hand, the layout isn’t optimal because it wasn’t designed as an apartment. And the building’s mix is odd – you have to make your way through the lobby past the AA meetings and kids birthday parties.
I believe I saw this place as well, although it could have been another apartment in the building. Well I guess it’s not really ONCE in a lifetime.
I remember thinking one could actually play football in it.
11217 – agreed. It’s one of my favorite buildings in the area. I kinda wish it was still just a social club, tho, rather than apartments. 🙂
DIBS – I can’t imagine this one falling much, no.
Polemicist:
I’d like to learn more about the club, actually….do you know where I can find out more info about it?
I honestly didn’t know this buildings housed apartments…I assumed it was all offices on the basement and “meeting rooms” and whatnot on the rest.
Learn somethin’ new every day…
> “annual taxes of $14,000+”
If you can afford a nearly $4,000,000 condo, you can probably find the tax money by rooting around in your sofa cushions.
Ringo, I was going to say less than $700k for sure. I wouldn’t doubt it.
I bought my first house in Chicago….a beautiful 2 family graystone (they are granite there, not limestone) with a 2 car garage for $75k in 1995.
> “I say it goes for asking price or within 10% of it.”
I think I’ll have to agree with you on this one, DIBS.
Wowzers.
