An hour before Simon & Alex’s house renovation was unveiled on last night’s new episode of The Real Housewives on New York, we stopped by their Cobble Hill house for a guided tour. The reality show couple livea in the lower duplex (plus renovated cellar) with their two kids and have two rentals upstairs. Enjoy the pics! Update: As a commenter points out, how funny was that to see Marty in the background of their housewarming party on the show last night!

  1. That is gross!!!! Honestly, that kitchen is weird and doesn’t go with anything. I like the ceiling and the wood floors but I imagine they were always there. The red with red couch is, NO JOKE, exactly what I pictured the inside of the old whorehouse on Lincoln to have once looked like. Complete with the light fixture.

  2. I’m not sure this reno could be any uglier.

Although PS 29 may not have been on the wish list, sending their kids to a well regarded public school in a pricey brownstone neighborhood actually puts them on par with far more “Real Housewives of NYC” and gives the show a little more credibility. Alex may not be as wealthy as the other wives, but she’s still living a very desirable life.

  3. “”Truth be told, Alex and Simon are actually growing on me on the show.””

I’m sure they had a ‘sit down’ with the producers after last season. They’ve obviously been positioned/edited more positively this season.

I’m betting they’ve had to do a lot of ‘damage control’ over how they came off last year. I imagine the principal at PS 29 wasn’t too ‘thrilled’ with them for starters, let alone the other parents who actually wanted to send their kids to the school who were essentially ‘dissed’ by Alex’s statements. Didn’t she say something like “It [PS 29] wasn’t even our 13th choice”? What a bone-headed thing to say. Way to ‘grease the wheels’ for your kids, lady.

  4. so i guess the renovation isn’t actually finished? i hope they’re putting a deck off that kitchen!

i prefer whatever room it is with the blues/greys as i’m not personally a big fan of the red/black scheme – but i think it works for them. overall, they did a good job of personalizing and modernizing while keeping/restoring enough of the historical details so that it still feels like a townhouse as opposed to a wanna-be modern condo. i would like to see more of the lighting, as that was what we found most challenging in our renovation.

  5. Yeah, you do sound like a curmudgeon, Dave. 😉 By kids, I mean anyone younger than my 43 years. 30 somethings certainly do buy homes. I lost my homeowner virginity at 29.

I write into my lease that tenants cannot paint molding and mantels, but walls are walls. I use wackier colors than any of my tenants anyway.
